This website is an information avenue to spread awareness and gain support from Ontarians to be a part of my research study on Ontario’s upcoming Drug Information System.
Let me introduce myself. I am a M.Sc. student in the eHealth Program at McMaster University. Part of my graduate work is to complete my thesis under Dr. Ann McKibbon, who is my supervisor and the local principal investigator of this study.
Despite the introduction of electronic medical records in community health centers and electronic prescribing in pilot sites of Ontario; only a limited number of pharmacists, handful of physicians and close to null patients have any information, awareness and known benefits of the Drug Information System being implemented in Ontario by 2012.
Primary Project Outcome of my Project & Thesis
To gather opinions of family physicians and nurse practitioners, pharmacists and consumers on the drug information system being implemented in Ontario; and create awareness of this two way electronic communication between prescribers in (primary practices) and dispensers in (community pharmacies) implemented in Ontario and to compare the findings with a Scottish Study whose surveys have been used for our study.
Ontario's Potential Drug Information System
(Please note that this figure is based on my assumption for the purpose of my Thesis.)
